2024 Reflections

Key takeaways from the team

As we log-off for Christmas, we thought that it would be nice to reflect on 2024 as a team. See below for a reflection on our main takeaways, achievements and lessons learnt throughout the year:

Q: How would you describe this year in 3 words?

Q: What have you enjoyed the most about working at Pointer this year?

Charles: Seeing individuals and the team grow.

Alice: Being able to show up as my authentic self and feel valued within the team.

Becca: Being part of a growing team that is really supportive of each other. I particularly value the concentration on continuous professional development and progression. I have been lucky enough to take part in many training courses this year which has developed my technical skills, especially in project management.

Q: What is your biggest achievement of the year?
Lucy: Developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing strategy for a business exhibition that we attended. It has been really rewarding to see the partnerships we have fostered since the event grow into really valuable connections and collaborations.

Alice: Winning our first sustainability project, setting a company net-zero target and delivering Carbon Literacy training.

Emma: My biggest achievement this year has been the development of our social value service offering and the successful delivery of 11 tailored social value bid responses. These efforts have played a critical role in helping our clients secure contracts and a highlight was achieving full marks for a client for these responses.

Q: What was the most exciting and/or rewarding project that you worked on this year?

Lucy: Assisting in the proposal of a first carbon footprint and decarbonisation plan for a small company wanting to do what is right for the environment.

Emma: Client facing project wise, the most exciting and rewarding project was writing and crafting responses to a grant application for one of our clients, a medical technology start up. Helping this organisation secure the grant was incredibly fulfilling, knowing our work helped unlock crucial funding for a company with such a meaningful mission.

Richard: The most rewarding project that I have been part of this year was the strategy workshops that we delivered for an architectural start up. It was great to be able to provide support to a company in a sector that we have not worked in before and move into a business coaching role. This work helped to provide direction and clarity to their business plans, while developing their confidence for future successes.

Q: What is the most important lesson that you have learnt this year?

Emma: Adaptability! This year has highlighted the importance of staying flexible - whether it’s
responding to the evolving needs of our clients, integrating new technologies like Jira, CoPilot, and AI into our practices, or being part of a growing team,or adjusting to new ways of working and collaborating.

Becca: Take advantage of every new opportunity, whether that is training opportunities, new client projects or networking events. Especially when these opportunities lie outside of your usual comfort zone. You never know who you will meet, what skills you will be able to develop and what value it could bring.

Charles: When you have an excellent team, you don’t need to do all the things!

Q: What are you most excited about for 2025?

Alice: The team being Carbon Literate, enabling a shared understanding of how we can make our own business more sustainable and in turn support our clients to do the same.

Emma: I am most excited about expanding and enhancing our service offerings in 2025. This will not only strengthens our portfolio but also opens the door to new markets and customers, driving exciting growth opportunities for the future.

Charles: Consolidation and finding new local clients.

2024 has been a great year for our growth and creating impact on our wider community and for our clients. We are looking forward to seeing what opportunities 2025 will bring. For more information about our team, see our 'Meet the Team' page.
