    Richard Price

    Director/Co-owner

Richard is one of our directors, who set up the company with his Co-owner (Charles) with the desire to do consultancy differently, solving interesting problems whilst still giving back to the community.

At Pointer, Richard delivers large scale programmes for the Ministry of Defence alongside helping Small and Medium Enterprises with smaller projects. His specialism within Pointer is management of large scale programmes, including people centred management. He has had an interesting and varied career, starting in the Royal Air Force as an Engineer Officer, to leading bomb disposal teams to working in large consultancies.

Academically, he studied MEng at Bristol University in Aeronautical Engineering and has two Masters degrees, an MBA and MSc in Human Factors and Safety in Aeronautics, both from Cranfield University. Professionally, Richard is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Project Professional. He also has several volunteering positions such as offering strategy and business planning through Cranfield Trust and being a vice chair for a local primary school.

    Charles Ross-Smith

    Director/Co-owner

Charles is also a Director and Co-Owner of Pointer, who had a similar desire to create a consultancy that also gave back to the community. His approach to consultancy is to go in with an open mind, provide pragmatic and justified options, exceeding expectations in the process.

His career started in a Civil Service role in the Ministry of Defence. 4 years later he joined a large engineering consultancy as a Systems Engineer, where he met Richard. Here he moved into complex programme and bid management, with an impressive 100% win rate across these bids. At Pointer, specialises in large-scale bid management and writing, programme management and change management.

Academically, he studied MEng In AeroNautical Engineering with a Study in Contential Europe at Bristol University. Professionally, he is also a Charted Project Professional.

    Ben Hughes

    Consultant

In 2022, Ben joined the company as first full time employee at Pointer. His approach to consultancy engagements is to ask difficult questions and simplify whenever possible.

After completing his Masters in Geography at Durham University, Ben started his career on the Commercial Management Graduate Scheme at BT. Following on from that role, he worked at the Ministry of Justice as a Senior Strategy Advisor. Wanting the challenge of a start-up environment, he then decided to Pointer.

During his time at the company, he has been involved in setting up our sustainability service, creating our first annual impact report and contributed number of project and bid management client projects. Ben is a qualified APM Project Manager and is working towards his chartership and is looking to undertake some APMP Bid Management qualifications in the near future. Ben also volunteers with Digital Boost, proving strategy support and mentoring to a range of start up businesses.

    Emma Fry

    Consultant

In March 2023, Emma joined the Pointer Team. For her, the key to successful consultancy is through high levels of enthusiasm, collaboration and proactivity.

Emma studied MSc Social and Organisational Psychology at Exeter University. During her studies she also was involved in multiple academic research projects at the Centre of Social Mobility and Evidence Based Justice Lab, which developed her passion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Before she started at Pointer, Emma also completed an internship at AtkinsRealis, making her realise that she wanted to start her career in consultancy.

Since joining the team, she has supported a health tech start-up, worked on multiple bids and helped to develop our social value service. She has also completed her APM Fundamentals Qualifcation (FQ) and is working towards her Chartership. Rebecca Foster

    Consultant

Rebecca started as an Intern at Pointer in the summer of 2023, then started a full time Consultant position at the company in October 2023. She believes that good consultancy relies on encouraging wider stakeholder engagement and building relationships based on mutual trust.

At university, she completed an BA in Human Geography at Swansea University and then proceeded to do a MSc in International Business and Strategy at Bristol University. During her studies, Rebecca took part in several sustainability-related work placements, through a research position at Circular Revolution and leading a team of students in the Climate Action Bristol Project. These ignited her passion for sustainability, an area which she focussed on in her position at Pointer.

Since starting at Pointer, she has contributed to service development, been involved in writing social value bids and wrote our latest Annual Impact Report. She has gained her APM FQ and is a qualified Agile PM Practitioner. Outside of work, she supports fundraising research for local charity project Sparks, which helps to inspire and educate people about the Sustainable Development Goals.

    Alice Montgomery

    Consultant

Alice is our newest addition to the team, joining in June 2024. Her approach to consultancy is focussed on encouraging collaboration, flexibility and striving for improvement.

Alice's career started in engineering consultancy, with great variety and collaboration across different disciplines. Her inherent organisation led her to large programme support roles before 18 months as a complex proposals bid manager. Alice's interests turned to sustainability after organising the UN International Panel for Climate Change Working Group III Conference, which then led to a sustainability consultant role focussed on carbon accounting and climate risk. She decided to move to Pointer to hone her skills in complex programmes whilst playing a large role in developing our sustainability service.

At University Alice studied Mechanical Engineering with Marine Engineering at the University of Southampton. She has a APM Project Manager's Qualification and is a certified Carbon Literacy Project Training Facilitator, working towards Trainer.
