Meet the Team Series: Ben Hughes

Ben joined the company in May 2022 as the first full time employee, We asked him some questions so that you can learn about his experience, specialisms and what he has achieved since being at Pointer.

What have your previous roles and experiences been?

My first role out of University was a Commercial Management GraduateScheme at BT where I did a number of varied roles including time in Procurement, Product Propositions and Corporate Strategy. I then moved to the Ministry of Justice where I was a Senior Strategy Advisor before I joined Pointer.

What is your academic background and other qualifications?

I studied for 4 years at Durham where I gained a Masters in Geography.I’m a qualified APM Project Manager and I am looking to undertake some APMP Bid Management qualifications in the near future.

Tell us about your specific skills and service specialisms.

I helped develop Pointer’s Sustainability service offering when Ijoined, which was extremely rewarding. I have also been lucky enough to support a number of interesting project management and bid management client engagements within the Defence sector during my time here so far.

What is your approach to consulting?

To ask difficult questions and simplify whenever possible.

How have you made a positive impact while working at Pointer?

I ran Pointer’s B Corp application process, which although finalaccreditation for us was unsuccessful, led to a number of changes and decisions the company made which I feel have been hugely beneficial for both staff internally but also the wider community and clients we impact externally.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Sport. Road Cycling is the latest new interest.

What personal sustainability choices do you make?

I get the train across to work and I’m looking to utilise our ClimatePerks travel policy over the summer hopefully.
